Consols 100^. 4-| per cent New Zealand loan has advanced to 98 ; § per cent 10.40 loan remains at 102-|, 5 per cent 1889 loan al, 106, Best Australian beef tallow has risen to 36s 4d per cwt; beat mutton is unchanged at 36s 6d ; best Australian leather has advanced %d, and is to-day quoted at lOf d. Lcrd Carlingford, (formerly Mr Chichester Fortescue) succeeds the Duke of Argyll as Lord of the Privy Seal. Sir Michael Hicks Beach has given notice in the House of Commons of a motion, censuring Government for its settlement of the Transvaal difficulty. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,430,000 quarters. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned to-day to April 25th, for the Easter recess, A bulletin issued this evening reports that Earl Beacon sfield continues very weak and is still in a critical state. Tenders for a Tasmanian loan of L3OO,GOO X at 4 per cent, were opened to-day, and were found to contain applications amounting to four times the sum required, The loan will be allotted at L 99 6s and 9d. Tenders for a loan for the colony of Fiji, bearing interest at per cent were also opened to-day, and the amount asked for was likewise found to be quadrupled. The whole loan will be allotted at L 99 10s. It is announced that the Duke of Argyll has resigned his position as Lord of the Privy Seal in the Ministry, His Grace's resignation is due to a difference of opinion with his late colleagues as to the provisions of the Irish Land Bill which have been introduced in Parliament. A bulletin issued this morning states that Earl Beaconsfield's relapse has left him exceedingly weak, and uneasiness is expressed as to his state. Great general anxiety is felt at the critical nature of his Lordship's illness. Rome, April 8. The Chamber'of Deputies has negatived a vote of confidence in the Ministry, and Signor Cairoli and his col- ' leagues have accordingly tendered their resignations to the King. Constantinople, April 8. The Envoys of the Powers to the Porte have had under consideration the circular recently issued by the Greek Government jnstifying its refusal of the offer made by Turkey for the settlement of the frontier difficulty. In. reply the Embassadors haye sent a' circular note to the Hellenic "Government peremptorily notifying as a final decision that it has been determined that the extended Greek fiantier shall alone consist of the province of Thessa.ly with a strip of country in South Epirus, including the town of Preyesa on the northern shore of the Gulf of Arta. The note adds, however, that it has been agreed the fortress of Prevesa may be dismantled by Turkey before being purrendered. Paris, April 8. Telegrams have been received from, Algiers, announcing that 10,000 troops despatched trom France in view of the difficulty in Tuni*, have been landed at Bona, a seaport on. the Algerian, coast, near the Tunisian frontier. . * AUSTRALIAN.
