LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH.

After the Temuka Road Board had concluded its business on Tuesday last, the same members assembled as the constituted Local Board of Health, when the following letter was read and discussed “ Temuka, April sth, 1881. “ John Talbot* Esq,, ‘■Chairman, “Temuka Local Board of Health, “ Sir, —I have the honor to inform you that on the evening of the 12th March last. Hr Hayes reported to me thal typhoid fever had broken out in Sodtovvn. On the following morning (Sunday), I proceeded with Dr Hayes to that locality and under his supervision thorougly disinfected several premises there. Since then I have made a house to house inspection for the purpose of keeping yards in a pioper saoitory condition, and I am happy to state that the fever has now greatly abated, and with proper care will cease altogether; During the past week I have inspected the accommodation provided at the Winchester School, and find that the extra closet accommodation recommended by the Local Board of Health some time since have not been provided, and the present state of the boys’ closet, again shows that the extra accommodation is absolutely required. Numerous complaints has for some time past been made to me, of neglect on the part of the Tenuka scavenger, and I \yo.uld respectfully recommend that he be discharged, householders having repeatedly to- see bin to get him to call at their premises.— I an etc. G. Bolton, Rate Collector.” ?he following resolution was adopted ; ‘That tenders be invited for supplying a vater cart-for the use of the nightman, vlft sketch of same, include wheels, adipted for horse, and not to be less than suty gallons. ” The meeting then terminated.
