MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on Friday, the XSthinst., in the Road Board office, Peel Forest. PRESENT. Members present—Messrs C. G. Tripp, J. Heney, and R. Mackny. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. Tenders for the various works were then considered, and the following accepted : No. 4 Contract—Forming on boundary road : Timothy Coffey, £25 15s. No, s—Protective works, Raincliff : James McCool, £37. No. 6—Shingling at Sherwood Downs : Cornelius Flynn, £l4O. No. 7—Shingling near Opuha Gorge, Sherwood Downs : Thomas Butler, £122. No. B—Forming at Sherwood Downs : Timothy Sugrue, £BO. No. 9—lmproving Ford’s Wise, £6 10s„ No. 10 Daniel Gulden, £4 12s. No. 11—Supply of Cement and Drain Pipes : Miles, Archer and Co., for cement at Timaru, 195.;: at Point, 20s 6d ; at Rangitata, 21s 3d ; at Albury, 21s 61 per ensk ;■ for drain pipes at Timarn, 4in, 5d ; Gin, B£d ; 9in, Is 4d ; 12in, 2s 6d. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : From the Hon. J. B. A, Acland, requesting; leave of absence from the meeting of the Board. Granted. From Mr J. L. "Wilson, requesting payment for patterns, and casting new Jaw to stone crusher. The Clerk was directed to write to Mr Wilson asking an explanation of certain items in the account forwarded by him. From the Railway Department, Wellington, in reference to changing the name of South Rangitata Railway Station to Woodhridge. From the Press Company, intimating that the Press has been appointed the Gazette for the District of Canterbury for Government notifications, etc. From the Chief Surveyor^^Cm^^

From the Geraldine Road Board, conveying a copy of a resolution passed at a public meeting of ratepayers re proposed extension of the Rangitata iraftic bridge. , J From Messrs White and Jameson, mode of constitution of a Rabbit District under the provisions of “The RabbitNuisances Act, 1880.” The consideration of the matter was deferred till next meeting. From the Colonial Secretary, in reference to bringing the regulations of Local Elections Act into force in the district. From Messrs Morrison and Dunlop, requesting permission to slaughter cattle and sheep on section 28004. The request wasgranted. From Mr Janies Watkins requesting the Board to repair and improve the road from live Rangitata Bridge 'to Boyd’s cutting. Tenders to be called for the work. From Mr J. H. Dean offering a crab winch for sa’e; The offer was declined. From Mr Henry Ford asking the Board, to forma part of the road leading over the Orari downs to connect it with the road leading up the Oiari gorge. Tendersto be called for the work. From Mr Mitton, manager of the Mount Peel Station-, requesting the Board to form* ■ the road from the shearers’ hut to section 25,674 ; also to form a short length of road leading to the Mount Peel, Wooished. Tenders to be called for the workFrom the manager Union Bank of Australia, in reference to renewal of the fixeddeposits of the Board. From Messrs Morris and Gall, Faiilia Creek, offering to supply the Board withhorse feed at the same price as supplied to the Mount Cbok Board. MISCELLANEOUS. The pnundkeeper had an interview with the Board, and paid over the sum of £s‘ 7s 6d realised from the sale of a horse out * of the pound, ", Proposed by Mr Heney—“ That inasmuch as the Geraldine Road Bo ird dec’ino to make any grant towards the extension, of the Rangitata Bridge, as at present proposed to he erected, the Mount Reel, Road Board feel, that, in justice to the ratepayers, they must adopt the same course..” The resolution lapsed, not,being seconded-. Proposed by Mr Tripp, seconded by Mr Mackay, and carried—“ That the Mount. Peel Road Board give one thousand pounds towards the extension of the Rangitata traffic bridge, as the Geraldine-.jf' Road-Board has promised five .hundred, provided the bridge is carried out on the cjdinder system, and that they are in. favor of a rate being struck by the County of Geraldine to cover the extra expanse." The Clerk was directed to make application for a reserve adjoining section. 25955 for the purpose of. planting. Resolved—“ That tenders be invited for the following works :1. Altering the- , Kakahu and Burke’s Pass road in section. 20,223; 2.■ Improving the road,in Raddon’s section ; 3. Stacking boulders along: the road -from Peel Forest Main Road toTripp’s cutting; 4. Fencing gravel re--serves ; 5. Ploughing gravel reserves ; Planting reserve at Sherwood Downs. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £654 3s sd. were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned;.
