CRICKET.

VOLUNTEERSV CIVILIANS. A match between eleven Volunteers and ;i like number of Civilians came off on the Park ground on - S itiirdny last. The Volunteers (in undress uniform) were captained by Mr J. M. Ollivier, and the Civilians by Mr E. Brown. Play commenced about two o'clock. For the Volunteers, G. Smith bowled and batted exceedingly well, and for the Civilian side E Brown's wicket keeping was much admired ; G. Ciiristmns also did good service. Both sides showed want of practice, and we think it a great pity that lovers of the noble game should have allowed the season to almost pass away before bestirring themselves, as there cannot be a doubt, judging from the two matches played, Temuka could—with practice—produce a very good Eleven. The match resulted in favor of the Volunteers by 12 runs. Appended are the scores : No. 1 Temuka Rifle Volunteers. First Innings. G. Smith 222111 c Austin 9 Gapes, run out 0 R.
