THE PROPOSED TOWN CLOCK.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Permit me through the medium of your columns to say a few words concerning the proposed town clook. A fear weeks since yon urged upon us the necessity of having a suitable clock erected in this town, more especially as we have a very desirable site offered to us for it gratis.. I must say, Sir, that a town clock is very much required, for it is very provoking when a man comes home to dinner to find that it is not ready, all through the clock in the house being slow or, perhaps, stopped altogether. If we had a town clock this sort of thing would not occur. It is also very annoying to find that through the same tiling you have either lost an hour or two or, maybe, half a day. If we had a clock that would strike every quarter of an hour, men would always be in time for work, and domestic matters, and business affairs would be in belter working order, and I can assure you, Sir, with the wages that men are paid now-a-days, it is hard enough to support a family, without losing a few hours, or a half day in tho week. You said that by having it erected now there will be a saving of about £270. This is another thing well worthy of consideration. Trusting that our leading residents will take the matter in haud at once, I am, etc., WORKING MAN.
