TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The monthly meetiug of the above Committee took place in the Schoolroom on Tuesday evening last. PEKSENT. Present —■ Messrs Mackay (Chairman), d-rny Wo«, T»>..«.~«.11," SleiiaelSOU ana Diowii. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. coekesponpence. From the Education Board advising £l3 3s had been paid to the credit of the Committee for payment of incidentals. From Mrs Rowe asking permission to hold a school treat on Friday next. Resolved—- " That the Chairman and Mr "Watt be empowered to grant permission, provided the headmaster approved of the same, and to be carried out under his supervision." The headmaster reported as follows for the month of February :—Number of children on roll: Boys 186, girls 170 ; total 356. Daily average attendance: Eoys 117.3, girls 106 ; total 223.3. Highest number present, 22nd February, 1881 : Boys 130, girls 111 ; total 241. Requirements—3 doz. slates for use of infants' department, window cards for class-room. The headmaster also forwarded a list of children irregular in their ♦attendance. Resolved—" That the Committee, owing to the incidental grant being so greatly reduced, feel compelled to refuse to supply slates and sewing material for the children ; also, that a sub-committee, consisting of the Chairman and Mr Mendelson, be appointed to consider the compulsory clause of the Education Act. Mr Mendelson proposed, Mr Gray seconded, and it was carried —•' That Mr Diddams be appointed hon. eeo. to the Committee." Mr Gray proposed a vote of thanks to the late secretary for the efficient manner in which the duties of his office had been carried out, and that the Committee regret they are unable to continue the services of a paid secretary. Seoondad by Mr Brown, and carried. accounts. Accounts to the amount of £2,2 lis Id were then passed for,payment, MEETING ROOM. A member having offered accommodation for holding the meetings of the Committee, it was resolved that the member's'. >ffer be accepted with thanks, and that Committee meetings until further notice be held at that place: VISITOEB. Messrs Gray and Mendelson were appointed visitors for the ensuing mont h. The meeting then terminated.
