TEMUKA ROAD BOARD

The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday. PRESENT. Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Etnpson, Paterson, Ensor, and Barker. MINUTES, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. OPIHI BRIDGE. Before proceeding with the ordinary business of the Board, it was decided to first consider the tenders for the Opihi bridge. The following tenders were received : G. Filmer, Timaru, £6694 5s ; Henderson and Fergus, Timaru, £6780 lls 4d ; W. B. Sibly, Timaru, £6485 5s j Chas. Days, Oamaru, £6332 4s 3d ; James Philp, Timaru, £6290 Is 8d ; Thomas and Hill, Amberley, £5211 10s 6d. Upon the motion of Mr Barker, seconded by Mr Empson, it was resolved—“ That the tender of Messrs Thomas and Hill for the erection of the Opihi bridge for the sum of £5211 10s 6d be accepted." Mr Barker proposed, Mr Paterson seconded, and it was unanimously carried “That applications be invited for the office of Inspector of Works at the Opihi bridge at a salary of £3 per week, the said applications to be in not later than 10 a, m. on the Bth inst., and that a special meeting of the Board be summoned for 2 p.m. of that day to consider the same.” NEW WORKS. On the motion of Mr Paterson it was resolved to invite alternate tenders for laying down concrete kerbing from the corner of the Crown Hotel past Storey’s stables, and from the Post Office on both sides of the street past the Volunteer Hall, either as at present being done in other parts of the town, or with a concrete water table added ; also for lowering the crown of the road past Nicholas’ stables. TIMARU HARBOR BOARD REPRESENTATIVE. Intimation haring been given to the Board that it is necessary for them to elect a representative on the Timaru Harbor Board, it was proposed by Mr Barker, seconded by Mr Ensor, and unanimously adopted—“ That Mr Keith Forbes Gray be re-elected to represent the Temuka Road Board on the Timaru Harbor Board for the ensuing terra." INSTRUCTIONS TO SURVEYOR. It having been reported that certain roads in the district were impassable from an over-growth of thistles, the Surveyor was instructed to take steps to have them cut. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : From Mr Leonard Tombs, asking the Board to continue the concrete kerbing from hia comer past Storey’s stables. Granted. From Mr Edwin Cuthbert, of Christchurch, offering his services to the Board to carry out any engineering work they might have. The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of the same. From Messrs Avern and Watson, of Dunedin, requesting the return of their competitive plans. From the same, acknowledging the receipt of the plans, Ac, From Messrs Dobson and Son, in re Opihi Bridge plans—“ Result" and “Re" solute.” The Clerk was ordered to reply that the author of these two plans had fulfilled all conditions and requirements. Mr Mr T. M. Hardy Johnston, C.E., Christchurch, offering his professional assistance and advice to the Board if they should require it. Tlie receipt ot same was ordered to be acknowledged: From Mr McArthur, Invercargill, re certain information concerning certain plans of the Opihi budge. surveyor’s report. The Surveyor’s report haying been read the following ordefs were given, viz. : Cleansing the Raupo Creek, Waitohi, —■ Consideration deferred. Raising the four roads at their Junction

with the Waitofai road. Deferred till after harvest.

Forming a portion of Marshall's road. Tenders to be called. With reference to the old wood now being taken up in the Main South Bo&d to make room for the newkerbing, the Board decided that it was their property, and it would have to be brought into the yard. ACCOUNTS. Accounts for the sum of £460 Ss 4d were passed for payment, TENDERS. The following tender was accepted : No 1 contract, widening canal drain— McAuliff, £23. The meeting then adjourned.

LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH.

This Board then* met.

The report of the Inspector of Nuisances was read, and it was resolved that as regards '"'the nuisance complained of at the corner of Vine street, the Inspector should ascertain who is the owner of the land, and then to order him to have the place cleaned forthwith.

There being no other business, the Board adjourned.
