TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the 4th Janu-
ary inst
Present Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Barker, Eosor, Quinn, and Paterson.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Upon the application of Mr Barker, it was resolved that the amount due him for the land obtained for the purpose of forming Spring’s Road be paid on the next meeting of the Board. After the mere formal business of the Board had been settled, Mr Quinn stated that he, ad one of tiie retiring members of the Board, did not intend to offer himself as a candidate for re-election ; but before retiring altogether from the Board, he wished to move a cordial vote of thanks to the Chairman for the able and courteous manner he had presided over the Board since he had filled the office of Chairman. This was seconded by Mr Barker, and carried unanimously.
The Chairman in reply was exceedingly sorry that Mr Quinn had decided upon retiring from the Board, as the district, by his so doing, had lost a good and valuable representative, and the Board a pleasant and congenial colleague.
TJpou considering the tenders it transpired that it was not possible to procure shingle for the metalling Clyne Road, and it was resolved that fresh tendeia be called for, to be in on next ordinary meeting of the Board, and in the meantime a letter be written Mr Hayhurst ou the subject, with the view of gaining his assistance in inducing Mr Mathews (one of his tenants) to reconsider his objection to the Board getting shingle from the pit on his farm.
It was resolved that the Clerk summon a special meeting of the Board for Wednesday, the 12th inst. The Surveyor’s Report having been read, the following orders were given, viz , That Mr Gross be written to informing him that there is some doubt as to the Board’s ability to give him a title for the land in question ; but that under the circumstances he be allowed to occupy the land at a rental of five shdlings per acre per annum, subject to the condition that the Board retain the right to lake shingle from it whenever they may require to do
The matter of shingling Marshall’s Road to be brought before a full meeting of the Board.
Tenders to be called for deepening the drain along the Canal Reserve Road. The matter of clearing out the Raupo Creek, Waitohi, was ordered to bo deferred for further information.
The following tenders were accepted : No 71, George Crozier, at 6s 4d per chain. No 72, D. Horgan. at Is ?|d per yard. No 73, E. Couinahan, at £1 2s 6d per chain. No 74, fresh tenders to be called. No 75, J. J. Connor, Is 9d per yard. No 76, J. Whitehead, £4 10s per chain. The Board then adjourned.
