It has transpired that a Cabinet Council, held yesterday, it was decided by the Ministers that unless the state ot Ireland has decidedly improved by the time Parliament re-assembles, on the 6th, prox., a Bill will be immediately introduced to suspend the Habeas Corpus Act. It was moreover decided, under such circumstances, to also propose measures for the remedy of the grievances of the Irish people. In consequence of the increasing necessity for further reinforcements in the disturbed districts in Ireland, two more regiments have been ordered across the Channel, and will be dispatched without delay. The Great Powers have decided for the present to postpone the consideration of the Porte’s circular inviting mediation in regard to the Greek frontier question. Dec. 14.
Intimidation of landlords in Ireland by evicted tenants and Leaguers continu.s without abatement, and fresh forms of outrages are heard of almost daily, especially against landlords, who have been ostracised by the people of their districts. The latest form of intimid it ion by Leaguers is the prevention of the export of cattle by landlords, against whom they have a spite. Several cases in which cattle intended for export have been prevented from leaving farms are reported. The Judges of the Irish Supreme Court have received letters threatening them with murder if they convict the Land Leaguers at their approaching trial for conspiracy. The Ministry continue to meet daily in Cabinet for the consideration of various measures to be introduced when Parliament re-assembles. At yesterday’s Council meeting the question of bringing forward an Irish. Land Bill was discussed for some time, and various points of the proposed measure were gone into by Ministers. Professor Fawcett, Postmaster-General has now under consideration a project foi the institution of a parcel post between England and the colonies. December, 16tb.
Turkey has issued a ciscular note, invoking the Great Powers to urge Greece to abandon her armament and negotiate, In t he Times a Lading article announces that England is willing to join the Great Powers for the purpose of settling the Greek question if France imitates. Calcutta, December 14. The latest telegrams from Allahabad report that the Marquis of Ripon is now improving. Washington, Dec. 14. Both Houses of the United States Congress have passed resolutions expressing sympathy with Irish tenants in their efforts to obtain redress for their grevances.
