OUR MEMBER.
Sir, —It is to be hoped the reception that our member received at the hands of the determined spirits present at his meeting on Saturday night—not withstanding the bullying attitude of several of hi 4 supporters—will have its salutary effect. By not allowing him to speak, they treated him with the contempt he deserves. Does he imagine his parting words to Temuka are forgotten, or .does he think his ungentlemanly behaviour in connection with the petitions forwarded to him while in Wellington last session will be forgiven ? If so, he js sadly mistaken, as the demonstration on Saturday night only too forcibly proved. Did he not pledge himself to vote against the Property tax, and vote for it ? Lid he, throughout the whole of last session advocate for one single thing for the electorate he represents ? Is not our Court House a disgrace to us, yet what has he done to better it ? Nothing. Instead of looking after the interests of the district, he has been keenly watching his own. His frequent absence from the House, and also his silence when in his place last session, was freely commented on all over New Zealand. I have been informed that Mr Wakefield intends addressing a select few one evening this week in the large room attached to the Crown Hotel. If this is true, the mighty Wakefield has indeed fallen low, in a political sense, when he has to adopt this hole and corner way c£ addressing the electors. Before concluding, I would point out to non-electors the advisability of taking the earliest opportunity of having their names placed on the Electoral Roll, so that they may not have again to submit to the taunts of those enlightened gentlemen who so freely indulged in the expression on Saturday night—“ They are not electors •” Thanks to Sir George Grey those not on the roll can have their names placed on it at any time. As an election is likely soon to take place, I would advise all to register at once.—l am', &c.,
WORKING MAM. Temuka, Dec. 12.
