TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Committee of the above school was held on We nesday evening last. PRESENT. Messrs 'Wilson (Chairman), E. Brown, W. Storjjy, F. Hooper, K. F. Gray, and J. Harrop. MINUTES. The minutes of the meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From the South Canterbury Board of Education stating that the incidentals for the three large schools had been calculated on, a wrong basis by mistake, and that the grant for the current quarter waß £9 7s 3d. From same farwardipg account book for the use of the secretary. From same stating the sum of £l6 5s had been paid into the Bank to the credit of the Committee fop incidentals. From same stating that the sum of £42 7s lid had been paid into the Bank for teacher's salaries for the month ending 31st October.

' The head master reported as follows , No on the roll: Boys 182, girls 173 ; total 355. Daily average attendance < Boys 119.4, girls 99 ; total 218.4. Highest attendance, Oct. 12, 1880 : Boys 139, girls 112 ; total 251.

The Visiting Committee (Messrs Russety and Storey) stated that they had visited the. school on the 3rd November. They found only a moderate attendance in consequence of a holiday having taken place a day or so previously. They found the fences in bad order, and requested the master to see that the same was attended to. They also recommended that something should be done to prevent the water from being contaminated by the cesspools. From Miss Mathias tendering her resignation as infant mistress on account of ill-health.

Mr Harrop moved, and Mr E. Brown seconded, and it was unanimously carried, " That the resignation of Miss Mathias be accepted, and that the Board of Education be written to this effect.

On the question of the reduced incidental grants, a long discussion as to the means of grappling with the difficulty took place, the members being unanimously ul opinion that some immediate course should be adopted to reduce the expenditure, otherwise the Committee would be unable to carry on ; ultimately Mr Harrop moved that the janitor be informed that in consequence of the incidental funds being seriously reduced by the Board of Education, they will be unable at the end of the current month to retain his services on the same terms, but will be prepared to consider a reduced offer. Seconded by Mr Gray, and carried.

Messrs Gray and Brown were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.

Mr Hatrop moved, "That the next meeting of the Committee be held on the first Tuesday in the month. Seconded by Mr Gray and carried. A vote of thanks to the Chairman and retiring Visiting Committee terminated the proceedings,
