Sir,—l quite agree with “ Working Man ” that the prices charged for meat and bread in Temuka and disfr.cts are excessive, and that steps shou'd be taken by the residents to undermine the understanding that evidently exists between the butchers. , The cooperative idea, though good, is- I am afraid, beyond bur reach, as there is not sufficient scope ; but I am certainly of opinion that an effortrought to be made to bring down the- prices; nbt only of meat and bread, but that of groceries as well, as there is no denying the fact that on some articles of grocery the prices charged are exhorbitaut in the extreme. The fact of having to pay much higher prices now, when wages are so low, and work hard to get, is serious to contemplate, and enough to make one wish
