A MOST EXTRAORDINARY MATRIMONIAL LAW.
A law of England enforced in the seventeenth century reads : “ Ail w nnen of whatever age, rank, profession, or degree, whether virgins, wive, or widows, that shall,, from, and after this Act, unptse upon, seduce, and betray into matrimony, any of his Majesty’s mal - subjects, by scents, paints cosmetics wAshes, ar ificial teeth, false hair, Spanish wool, iron stays, hoops, highheeled shoes, or bolstered hips s’-all incur the penalty of the laws in force against witchcraft, sorcery, and the like, and that the marriage, upon conviction, shall stand null and void.’’
