HORSE PARADE.
The annual horse parade, under the auspices of the Temuka ami Qerahline Pastoral Association, was held on Tues day last in the grounds known as Marshall's paddock*. 'j’lie weather was delightfully fine, enabling farmers and hr.eders ot horses to he pivs-nt and judge for themselves as to the merits ot the various animals. There were 16 entries, which is exactly the number paradea last 3 ear, viz.:— DRAUGHT HORSES. The lute Mr J. Cramond’s Executors’ Young Royal Conqueror, by Royal Conqueror. Mr R. Matthews’ Lord Castlereagh by Young Watty, d«m Violet, by Sir Colin Campbell. Mr J. McFarlane’s Prince Humbert, by Young Prince cf Wales, dam Clutha. Mr S. McCullough’s Lord Loftus, by Old Sir Colin Campbell. Mr M. Whiteman’s Prince of Denrnanc, by Abraham Newland. Mr Watkins’ Eclipse, by Prince of W4es. Mr J. Milne’s Sir Walter Scott, by Ivanhoe, dam beauty. N.Z and A.L. Company’s Farmers’ Fancy, by Rantin Robin, dam Lass U’Gowrie, THOROUGHBREDS, Mr Corbett’s dangler, by Traducer, out <<f Tantrums.
Mr T ’. Walker's Trump Card, by Traduce”, out of Revoke, by Sir Hercules. Mr C. Story’s Rapid Roan, by Knotting! v.
Mr R. Orton’s Vingt-et-un, by Sputter tiie Dew, out of Seatbuvn Pride. Mr H. Vallence’s Detainer, by Traducer, out of hverline. Messrs Murphy aud Stock’s Discretion. by Detractor, out of Countess, by Peer, .lain Fairy. Mr D. McGuinness’ Sherwood, by Dioraedes, out of May Flower. PONIES. Mr A Toomv’s Duke of Edinburgh, by Mazep: a, dam G’psey. The parade was undoubtedly the best liiat has yet beou held in Ternuka as far as the condition of the animals are concerned. The arrangements were eminently satFfactoay, but it is to be hoped that the next year the committee will set* their way clear to issue printed programmes. We heard a many complaints in this respect. In draughts sc many good horses being entered tnrkes it difficult to distinguish them. Lord Castleivagh, Prince Humhart, Famu'r’s Fancy, and a’l the others being in good form. Young Royal Conqueror lias filled out since last year, and was in splendid condition, showing the care taken by Mr A. Mcßratney. Lord Loftus is a promising youngster, but this year has been too much worked. Prin. eof Denmark looked in the pink of condition, but his age tel s very materially against him. Sir Walter Scott and Eclipse are both first-class horses, and ought to be much enquired for this sanson. In thoroughbreds Trump Card was the admired of everybody. This horse was really a picture to behold, and is a great acquisition to the disirict. We hear that the subscription to this horse is nearly full, dangler is another son of old Traducer, but of a different stamp, taking as lie does more after the dam e.h;>n the sire. Rapid Roan was in good trim, and as he is a sure foal getter, should not be lost sight of. Vim.t-et-un should also be kept in mind, beiiuj made from the right stuff. Sherwood, Discretion, and Delomer are hut medium horses, the latter being, perhaps, the best of the three. The pony of Mr Tuomey came in for a good share of p aise, and he really deserved it, being a nice square built clean legged animal.
