A relieving force has arrived in Basutoland from Natal. Alderman William Macarthur, M.P., has been elected Lord Mayor of London. A report has been received that the Albanians set fire to the town of Dulcigno and that the place has been burned to the ground. The rumour requires confirmation. Adelaide and New Zealand wheat has advanced sixpence per quarter,, and today's quotations are—Adelaide, ex warehouse. 46s 6d * New Zealand, ex ship, 42s 6d. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse is quoted at 32s 6d.
Oct 1. he report received yesterday that the Albanians had Bet fire to Dulcigno is now proved to have been devoid of foundation. The latest news to hand from the combined fleet at Ragusa is that Admiral Seymour has decided to leave Ragusa on Monday, and proceed south to the * Gulf of Ciittaro, which is deemed a safer place of anchorage. Nothing definite has yet been decided as to when the fleet will proceed to Dulcigno. At a Cabinet council held yesterday Earl Granville, the Foreign Secretary informed his colleagues that he had had an interview with Musurus Pasha, the Turkish Ambassador, regarding the difficulties between Turkey and the Powers, and he (Lord Granville) was able to state that the Porte is receding - from the position is had taken up, and was now endeavouring to dissuade the Albanians from offering resistance to the cession.of Dulcigno to Montenegro. It has been agreed by the Great Powers to await the proposal to be made by the Porte on Monday with regard to the cession of i ulcigno to the Montenegrins. Further advices to hand state that the Albanians are mustering in strong force in Dulcigno. H.M.S. transport Ileclahas taken torpedo-boats to the island of Corfu. The Porte to day has addressed a request to the Powers, through their ambassador here, asking that it may be allowed to delay until Monday, when it promises definite steps shall be taken to ■ , .bring about a solution of the Montenegro-. difficulty. Both General Grant and Mr Evarts, Secretary of StPte, have delivered speeches in favor of the candidates, of their respective parties.
