GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The above Council met in their rooms, Ti«« maru, on Tuesday, all tho members present A mass of correspondence was read from the Colonial Secretary, tho .various Road Boards, and from the Ashburton County Council A considerable amount of time was taken up in .connection with tho slaughter houso license business
Correspondence respecting the Timaru Hospital showed that Government claimed Lllß9 13s 2d for hospital, and L 447 for charitable aid, owing by the Council
It was resolved, that this claim should noi be admitted
The Ashburton County Council also sent in a claim for share of subsidies to ferryman, the 6ame being.declined
The bridging of the Opihi was again brought up by Mr Wilson, and »n a motion being pro posed by him- that tho work be at once proceeded with—considerable discussion took place, the mover remarking t hat. if the county had adopted the wnolo Act at first, as other counties had done, it would now have plenty of money, as tho subsidies and Land fund woukl have been in the Council's hands instead of tho Road Boards.
; Tho motion was withdrawn, and a notice of motion will bo proposed ?i the next meeting of tho Council that, a rate, be struck to take itsplace
