CrEIiALDIXE, .Time 11. Tho public meeting afc the Oddfellows' Hall to consider tho property tax was crowded. .Mr Postlcti waite waa in tlie chair. It was proposed and carried—" That while approving of the property lax as sound in principle, this meeting respectfully recommends to the Government the fohowing matters for their consideration ; —(I) That al. the contents of the third schedule ov personal property statement So. ',l be exempted, wit it the except ion of money secured on mortgage, bills ot sale, etc. ; (2) That a tax be placed on the incomes of persons not being ratepayers, on lease or property holders ; (3) That the exemption of £SOO be reduced to £3OO ; (■!■) That the honorarium to members of the Legislative Conned be discontinued ; (fi) That in ease of appeal better provision should be made to secure justice to the appellants." It was further rroposed and carried—» " That a copy of the foregoing resolution be forwarded to Mr Wakeileld, Member for the district."
