SOUTH RANGITATA NOTES.

(From Our Own Corbksponcent.) Mr G. Canavun (who has been acting ns postmaster at the South Rangitata for a considerable period) was the other d;iy appointed by the Heal Office, postmaster for the district, and he can now supply the population with stamps etc. to any exfentj the acquisition of which must prove a great boon to the district, as, before Mr Canavnn’s appointment, if you wanted a stamp, you would have to ride about six miles. There is no doubt all these conveniences combined will tend greatly to increase the patronage of the office. The exit of Mr Andrew Grant from this district will be felt by all for s>me time, as he was a good neighbour, and took part in everything which tended to help the district. I believe Mr Grant has taken Mr Hargreaves rnn In McKenzie Country, and Mr Empaon has succeeded him here, to both of whom I wish every success. The crons in this district have been exceedingly this year, some of them averaging 70 bushels to tlie acre, but for the dull state of the market at present, the plains would have gained a very goo I name. The ploughs are again at work, and in a short time most of the wheat will be in. The erection cf a public pound would be a great bb-ssing in this vicinity, as there are continually mobs of horses ('to nil. appearances not nought by any person) wandering about, tearing the fences wherever they can get a bite of grass..
