Under the above heading the . Philadeldhia Chronicle says :—“Owing to the mistake of a telegraph operator ■ freight trains on the Philadelphia and Erie railroad came into collusion near Camerno Mills. Chris Dean was the engineer of one of the trams. Both he and his fireman were fastened beneath the wreck of their locomotive. Dean was held by one of hi * legs, which was caught by the fire-box of the engineHi» fireman was ueail, hurled under the pieces of the wreck. When the men were discovered. Dean had managed to reach the tool-b. x, and he was making every endeavour to extricate the fireman. When he saw the men wno had come to their aid. Dean shouted, “ Help poor Jim. N.ver mind me?” The fireman was extricated as soon as possible, and in an unconscious condition. Dean was then taken out. It was then ascertained that during all the time he had been working to relieve his fireman the fi ,- e—box was burning his leg to a crisp. It was' literally roasted from his knees down, and had to be amputated. The fireman died, but it is thought the brave engineer will recover.
