SIR GEORGE GREY AT INTER CARGILL.

Invebcagill, May 20. Sir George Grey addressed a Targe meeting of citizens here to-night. The Mayor occupied the chair. The speakee said little or nothing new, the address being simply a rechauffe of that delivered to the Christchurch electors. The same explanation was made regard ing the deficiency of the everue. He advocated the imposition of land and income taxes, and the abolishment of the property tax. He urged them to resist any attempt to do away with the the educate n vote, and repeated the oh sorvations he made at Cli istchurch regarding the stoppoge of subsidi s to local bodies. The land question was referred to at some h ngtlT but nothing new wes said. Regarding immigration, the speaker advocated the American svst un, being of opinion that if it was fully known that large tracts of country were available for settl orient small capitalists and oth *r desirah e settlers would cmne to and settle in the colony in large enough numbers to avoid the expense attendant upon the present immigration scheme. On Mr feldwick’s motion, Sir George Grey was accorded the thanks of the meeting for his add res , and was assured of their confidence in him as leader of the Liberal party in New Zea land.
