WINCHESTER INSTITUTE.
A meeting of the Library Committee was held in the reading room last Thursday evening Present :—Messrs De Renzy, Lawrence, Taylor and Dnunelt Mr Lawrence was unanimously voted to the chair The minutes of the previ us meeting having been read and continued, Correspondence was read from the Secretary to the Board of Education, advising that L 9 18 lOd was the Library’s share of the Government subsidy, and suggesting that books be obtained through the Board for that amount From Bell and Bnulfute, Edinburgh, with catalogue From the Secretary of the lOOF, Winchester, asking for the use of the readingroom for their fortnightly lodge Proposed by Mr Deßcnzy, seconded by Mr Taylor, and carried —‘‘That as the Committee are unable to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the Board of Education of obtaining new books, that the Secretaiy be asked to lodge to the credit of this Committee the share of the Goven mi nt grant allot* d to them” Popos ‘d by Mr Dim ett, am. seconded by Mr Lawrence—“ That the use of the reading-room be granted to the Oddfellows subject to the charge of one shilling for each meeting.” After some desultory conversation concerning books missing from the library, it was proposed by Mr De Ronzy, and seconded by Mr Taylor—That the Librarian bo required to inform the Committee in whoso hands the missing books are ” It was proposed by Mr Taylor, and seconded by Mr Lawrence—‘‘That Mr De Renzy act as Chair nan, andMr Dunnett as Secretary to the Institute for the ensuing twelve months.” The following accounts wore passed for payment—,Timarn Herald, 12s; Otago Daily Times, L 3 7s fid ; Press, 15s.
This concluded the business of tho evening.

"v for payA number of ment, k The Secretary reperted"'that Mr RssVy-’ had kindly promised to repair the roof free of cost v ... ~ Respecting grant for book:‘pit was resolved that the Board be written to the effect that the money would be more useful Resolved —“ That a Committee, consisting of Messrs McKay, Franks, and Harrop be appointed to select books from catalogue” Messrs Harrop and Mendelson drew attention to the fact of the Institute not being self-supporting, and said it was to be deplored that an institution of this sort should not be better appreciated A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings
