PLEASANT POINT SCHOOL.

The adjourned meeting of the Pleasant Point School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening, the 13th instant. Present—Messrs (chair man), Acton,Morris, and Greig, Seven applications were received for the post of second Master, and after some consideration, Mr Acton proposed —“Joseph Thomas, of Ashley, be offered the appointment, and failing him, Mr Morris, and carried. Letters were read advising the Committee of payment of the grants previously applied for. A letter was road from Mr B. Short, applying fur the use of the sch 'o -r >om to lecture in on the 19th instant. — Application granted on payment of the sum of los. Accounts to the araonnt of L 9 4s 7d were passed for payment. The Inspect u’s report on the examination of the school was briefly considered by the meeting, but the examination having taken place last November, the meeting considered the report ha 1 lost its interest —if, indeed, it ever had any.

The minutes nf one ordinary and one spoci il meeting were read and confirmed The following letters from the Board of Education were read and considered : —lst. Voucher f r salaries frr month ending 30th 'pril. 2nd Intimating that L 5 15s h d been paid to the cr it of the C.mimitlee tor the payment of incidentals tor the quarter ending 30th June. 3rd. Enclosing summary of attendance r turns for quarter ending 31st March. 4th, S.atina the Committee’s application tor grant for planting would be considered at the next meeting of ths Board. sth. Calling the attention of the Committee to the fact that many teachers complain of tne delay in the payment of their monthly salaries, and requesting the Committee, if possible to pay salaries on the last day of the month. Mr Sutherland had an interview with the Committee in reference to procuring additional -chool furniture. He explained that in consequence of the attendance steadily increasing, it will uecessarv for the r >per working of the school to obtain two more desks and forms.

It was resolved on the motion <1 Mr Duncan, seconded by Mr Beatt “ That the Borrd be asked to supply the necessary school furniture.” Proposed by Mr 1.-ary, seconded by Mr Beattie,au f earrie —“That provi led the average alien lane 1 daring the present quartT comes up to 40, tho Board hi asked to sanction the appointment of a pupil teacher for the quarter come meneine Ist July.” In r terenee to the Board’s i. Her No. 5, it was carried-— “ That the L’hai man bo requested to pay salaries as suon as convenient after the receipt of vouchers.”

Mr. Duncan t«aid it was a fact that voir’hors did not reach the C nnmittee with sufficient regularity to pay tone ;ers on the Ist of the month —sum times arriving five or six days late—hence the alteration in the d e of the Committee meetings from the first to the second Monday in the mouth. This was done not necessarily to pass the amount in Committee, but to save time and triable in watching the,arrival of the mails and settling all business in connection with the sc iool at the regular meetings.
