PLEASANT POINT.

The monthly meeting of the school Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening. There were present Messrs Butler (Chairman), Acton, and Anderson. Several letters were read from the Board of Education and also the result of the Scholarship examination The quarterly attendance returns and the official report of the examination of the school in November last were laid before the meeting. The consideration of the latter was deferred until the meeting. ... In reference to a letter from the Board as to planting trees, &c., the action of the Chairman in the matter was approved of. The teachers’ salaries for the past month having been reduced in consequence of the low average attendance of tho Inst quarter, the following resolution was past in reference to the same : tho full amount advertised by the Board for the present quarter. Circumstances over which they had no control, namely wrong date as to re-opening of the school, temporary arrangements for carrying on the work until the arrival of tho staff appointed, &c., was the cause of the low average, and the committee request 'that the teachers’■ salaries bo computed on the previous quarbr’-i attendance.” A letter was read from Mr Diamond asking the use of a room and tie harmonium for * short time. Resolved use of the same as per tho terms ot his letter.” Mr D. Anderson was appointed visitor tor the month. Tuo Chairman was authorised to procure one cord of cut firewood and half a ton screened coals. The meeting then adjourned.
