SOUTH CANTERBURY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
This Board meets on Wednesday (to-mor-row) at the usual lyr Doubtless grave deliberations will take place over the bungling in connection with the late scholarship examinations, as well as over the late elections, the validity of which is challenged by tire Timaru Committee. The reply to the Timaru Committee, received from tiro Minister of Education f.uhstantiatos the statement made the other day, that tho Board have absolute power to do is it liked with the Committees and its funds, as well as with everything that concerns tho Education of South Canterbury We are curious to learn how tho Board will act in this illegal election cas•;; also regarding the examination for scholarships. A verdict of acquittal is nothing more than we ought to expect, and nothing more, perhaps, than the merits of the case demands for the s )rutinoers; but this will never satisfy the public nor exonerate the examiners from blame iu connection with the unseemly affair -aocm outside person or pers ms will satisfy those interested in this matter We think it a pity that this was not resolved upon at tho outset
