Sydney, April 22. In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Fitzps trick, the leader of the Opposition, gave notice of motion tantamount to a vote of want of confidence in tiie Government, in consequence of the latter's refusal to legislate on the question of mining on private property. A considerable amount of mining speculation is going On at. Ballarat. An official telegram to hand states the Governor of the Winwaid Islands has been appointed Governor of Tasmania. A ballot has been taken among tho miners, it proves adverse to the masters' offer, and a strike is now probable. Sailed—P.M.S.3. Zoalandia, with the outward San Francisco mail. At a meeting of the Mutual Provident Society yesterday, the proposal to amend the by-laws relating to proxies was rejected by a large majority. Sailed— Arawata, for New Zealand yesterday. Melbourne, April 22. The spread of cuptheria at Hajiilton is diminishing, and precautions are being taken to prevent an outbreak in other parts of the colony. The Iron Duke, about which considerble anxiety was felt at having left London on December 21st, has arrived,
