At a meeting held here the other even--ihg,'it was resolved to hold a race meeting on St. Patrick's Pay, 1880. Mr Acton was appointed President, and Mr Gaze hon. secretary. An influential committee was then formed to carry out the necessary arrangements. One of the most rejected of oui* inb'ifants died hero last Monday evening." "Much sympathy is felt for Mrs Rodgers, as lie leaves a largo family. * The funeral took place in Timaru on the sth iast., ; There is to be an entertainment here shortly on behalf of the funds of the Eog lish Church. Sevu-al ladies and gentlemen fromTenmka have kindly promised '-us' their assistance, a very good pro-gramme-is being drawn.out. It promises to eclipse the hist entertainment} which was a great success in every way. Harvesting is in full swing ne;ir the Point, and the crops are looking extremely welh There, are ■ several reapers and binders in the district, but Marsh's Harvester King, is found i o bo the best machine for working, and does not break down, in any way.. There are a great many " sw;ig-' gers" in the township- at: present, asking for work, but in spite of that the farmers shy that they have to give a higher price <'f binding and stooking than ihey have given for year^.
