R.M. COURT, TEMUKA.

Before F. Guinness, Esq., R.M. Wednesday, 28th Jan., 1880. Tho Court sat at 10 a.m. INSULTING LANGUAGE. Ellen Burke was charged by one Rebecca Nevill with having, on the 21st inst, used insulting language, calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. Mr Austin, instructed by Mr White, appeared for tho compiaina d. The evidence, which was of a most disgusting nature, went to show that the whole affair was a neighbors-’ qaurrel, and His Worship thought justice would be met by binding both parties over in one surety each for LlO, besides their husbands, to keep the peace for G mouths. CIVIL OASES, Harrop v Reid.—Claim, L2 ss. Judg meat for amount claimed and costs. Ackroyd v Linden.—Claim, LIO 10s Bd. Judgment confessed. Lyon and Harrop v Linden : Judgment summons, L 3 17s ; Thomson v Linden. Judgment summons, L 7 19s Bd, It appeared that Linden was a contractor, and bad the building of Taylor’s Hotel at Geraldine, but that it took ill the money ho bad received on account to pay wages. He was now cm wages at L 3 per week, and Hie Worship made an order in each of tho above cases for 7s per week, or one month’s imprisonment. Napier and another v Thompson—Claim Ll 4.

A previous action was nonsuited, on (ho ground that the trustee for the plaintiff’s partner, Williams, who has become bankrupt, should have been joined with tha plaintiff. In tho present action this had been done, but it was argued that the indemnity offered (a letter) was not sufficient. Ilis Worship decided to reserve tho point and hear tho merits of tho case.

From the evidence it appeared that Williams, previous to entering into partnership with Napier, was indebted to the defendant (Thompson) for a certain sum, and asked Thompson to give him work, that it might be paid off. This Thompson agreed to, and sont'an American waggon to their workshop to bo repaired. The price agreed for by Williams was to be L 7. Defendant put in a set off for the amount of Williams’ account. This Napier objeota to, as it is a private account, and has nothing to do with the hrm. His Worship reserved his decision till next Court day.

With reference to the speech of the First Lord of the Admiralty at Sutton last wiek, it now transpires that it is proposed iha 1 the British troops in Afghanistan shall retire from Cabul to Jollalabad, and that the appointment of a British Envoy at Cabul will probably bo waived. Public belief in the rumor recently circulated tiiat a frontier province would bo formed between the Khybcr and the Curran is strengthened since the above facts have transpired.
