TEMUKA BRASS BAND.

A meeting of those interested in the formation of a brass band for Temnka took place at the Royal Hotel, Temnka, on Friday evening last, there being about thirty persons present. Mr W. G. Rutland was unanimously voted to the chair, and after briefly stating . the object of the meeting, and the steps that had been taken to further the same, he explained to the meeting that it was the intention of the members to find half the funds required for purchasing their instruments, and to apply to the public to supply the other half. A list had been circulated in order to test the feeling of the public, and over 40 influential names had been appended, all syrnyalhiaing with the movement, and promising their sup-

The following resolutions were then passed: Teat a brass band be f rmed in Temnka, to consist of 20 members, with power to add to their, and to be called the mnuber Temnka Brass Band. That Mr. Alfred Cox be asked to become President, and Mr. D. M‘Kay be asked to become, Vice-President. That the following be a working committee ; —Messrs Henry, Rutland, Burrows, Harrison and Storey, exclusive of four officers, five to form a quorum. Mr Uprichard was elected secretary, and Mr Fanvel treasurer.

That the sum of 10s be paid by each member as an initiation fee on or before: next meeting night. That the purchase of the instruments be left to the committee.

That trustees be appointed in which to vest the band property; ami that Messrs Fguvel and tlprichard wait upon Messrs Cox, Mendelson and Brown, and ask them if they will kindly become trustees. That an account bo opened at the Bank of New Zealand, Temnka, and that all monies be paid" £o the secretary, to.be handed to the treasurer, and then banked. That the committee be empowered to draw up roles for the successful working of the band.

After the appointment of collectors, the meeting adjourned till Thursday next, at 8 p m. (
