PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
The annual meeting of the Temuka congregation was held in the church on Thursday last at 7 p. m. The Rev Mr D. Gordon occutiled the chair.
The Chairman opened the meeting with praise and prayer, after which the minuter of the hist annual meeting were read and confirmed
Mr Gordon stated that the object of the meeting was to hear the financial statement of last year, and other business connected with the church.
Mr Donn, secretary for the past year, then read the financial statement, showing that L 517 had been receive ! from various sources, and the disbursements to amount to L 503, leaving a balance in hand of Lt 13. This st-1 inent included a portion or the year when Terauka, Geraldine and Pleasant Point was one parish. Mr Wilson, clerk of the session, also made a short statement of the doings of the session since Temuka became a separate parish, and "gave*, some particulars about the Sunday-school. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the thanks of the meeting given to the retiring committee. The meeting then proceeded to the election of a new committee. Nearly all the old members were re-elected, and several gentlemen not previously upon the committee were proposed and duly elected, as also were the secretary and treasurer. Considerable discussion took place over a proposal to enlarge the church, also over a proposition to purchase a certain property for a manse. Ultimately it was resolved to appoint a sub-committee, to take what steps it may deem necessary to obtain tho-best information about enlarging the church, and to report at the quarterly meeting in March. A Sub-Commitee was also appointed to take steps for securing at the earliest period possible a suitable manse for Mr. Gordon.
A long discussion took place over a proposition to let the scats of the church. It was finally agreed that it be intimated from the pulpit for two Sabbaths that sittings will be let during next fortnight, and that applicants may apply for same to Mr M'Kay, secretary, Mr Martin, treasurer, or Mr Gray, and if not applied for before expiry of that time, they will be open for any who may apply. The meeting was then closed.
