Auckland, Jan. 14. The Retorua, for Wellington, took away a new half-decked yacht, built by Mr Bailey, of the North Shore, to the order of Mr But ler, of Wellington. Her owner, who is now in Auckland, expresses nimself highly pleased with the workmanship and design. Should she arrive at Wellington in time to be fitted out for the regatta, she will bo entered for a yacht race there.

The Mounted Rifle Volunteers were presented with Colors this afternopfr. There was a-.large muster from the country. The Colors were presented to the Corps by Major Stapp, on behalf of the ladies! A ball is given this evening by the Corps to their friends. The coal brought from Mokau is spoken of as very good. The engineer of the Hannah Mokau says he can get more steam up with it thae with the Grey coal. It is to be tried on engines on the lines here.

Fc crabs nor lobsters had been shipped, as Mr felt that the care of the birds during voyage was as much as he could undertake with satisfaction to himself, ihe Waimate had sailed from 27tu and althaugh very bad weather had been experienced during the collection of the birds , Mr Kennetrsy states from a personal insnection of the birds on board ship, that they were all in good health, and likley to do wed.

Dunedin, Jan. 15. With reference to the statement in the Wellington Chronicle that Mr Robert Stout had been offered a Supreme Court judgeship hy the Government, Mr •Stout has authorized the Times to say that no such offer was ever made, and that had it been made it would not have accepted, and that ho does not intend to allow his political opponents to put him on the shelf quite so soon. Very"little- damage appears to have been done to the crops by the late rain, and ths weather to-day has been splendid.

To-day His Honour Mr Justice Williams heard the case of Davidson v. Davidson, in camera, being a petition for judicial separation of Mrs Davidson son against her husband, Mr W. D Stewart and Mr McGregor appeared for the petitioner, and Mr Stout for the respondent. The case will occupy at least two days. Lieutenant D, Christie, East Taieii has entered for the matches in connection with the New Zealand Rifle Accoc:ation’s meeting at Nelson in March next.
