The Government lias forbidden the production, at the Academy of Music, of a political burlesque caricaturing Ministers. The Bank of Lew South Wales gave notice of withdrawal from the agreement with other Banks respecting the rate of interest. The Chief Secretary has prohibited the production of the burlesque “ Happy Land,” wherein it was intended to represent Messrs Berry, Longmore, and Smith The other characters were Gladstone and Lowe.
Largo subscriptions are coming in towards the Irish Relief Fund. Adelaide, Jan. 14. The P. and 0. Company’s steamer Indus with the inward Suez mail, has passed Cape Borda. Brisbane, Jan. 14. A girl bathing on the coast, near Rockhampton was carried out to sea by a wave. She was, however, rescued by another girl, who swam out to her assistance. Sydney, Jan. 14. Nows lias been received that the steamer Strathleven has arrived at Suez. Her cargo of meat is in good condi Jon. Both Houses of Parliament resumed sitting after the Christmas recess. A deputation to-day waited upon His Excellency the Governor to urge commutation of the death sentenced in the case of the bushranger Hogan. His Excellency promis 'd to submit the matter to the Executive, but held out no hope of commutation being granted. Jan. 15.
A quantity of wool has been damaged in the Scot ish Knight. The vessel will probably be float 'd, and come on to Sydn y for repairs. Sailed—Albion.
