Tire usual monthly meeting of theabos.e Committee -was held-on Tuesday evening last. .

. aV,lembera present—A. Wilson (Chairipjin), Messrs Gray, Storey, Hooper, Wills rand Russell. ../The minutes of the last meeting being read and confirmed, the following correspondence was then considered •From the Secretary of the Childrens’ Entertainment Committee, stating that in the event of the School Committee haying no objections, the Entertainment Committee would expend the sum of LlO in pxdzes, to.be distributed amongst the scholars, in accordance with the order of merit, as per Inspector’s report, a first and second prize to be given to eech class..

Kesolved —“ That the Committee, in acknowledging the receipt of the letter of Dccemb-r5, will be happy to accept the LlO offered for vrizes for children, but wish it to be understood that the money come into their hands without any conditions.- : -■ -

It was move l,as an amendment—‘‘That tlie ; committee'accept the LlO offered, but that 3 prizes be given to each class, and that a sub-committee, to consist of Messrs Wilson and (dray, meet Messrs Cox and Johnston, to choose the prizes, and that the prizes be presented at the school on the 19th hist.” —Lapsed for want of a seconder.

From "Mr Hnyw-od, asking for the use of the schoolrooms to exhibit his panorama of New Zealand.-—Application refused. Considerable discussion then took place of the Board of Education declining" to accept a* tender for the out buildings for the school. .... ■

• Resolved— 0 That the committee views with regret that the ‘Board of Education have not accepted;a tender for the erection of the closets. The matter has been left too long for the health of tiie children,and consider that the lowest tender should be accepted within a week or ten days. In the event of this not being done, this committee will lay the matter before the Minister; for Education, the Board of Health having ordered the closets to be at once put into a proper sanitary condition.” If was resolved —“ That four weeks’ holiday be given, to commence from the 19th inst.”

Highest, number present, Nov. 26th—Boys, 126 ; girls,. 105 ; total, 231 Messrs Wills and Brown were re-ap-pointed visitors for the month. A vote of thanks to the Chairman then terminated the meeting.
