THE GERALDINE COUNTY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TEMUKA LEADED,
Sir,—The Mount Peel Road Board yesterday passed a vote of thanks to Edward Wakefield. Esq., M.H.R.. for tabling a motion—" That, in the opinion of this House, the proposed new County of Timaru should not be constituted."
The following petition to Parliament has been drawn up for presentation, to be forwarded to our member (J. Studholme, Esq., M.H.R.), when the signatures of people that can be got are to bo obtained : " The electors of the Mount Peel Riding of the County of Geraldine understand that the ratepayers of a portion of the present County of Geraldine have petitioned to be made a separate county, under the title of the County of Timaru. " We the undersigned electors of the Mount Peel Riding of the said County of Geraldine humbly request the Parliament assembled not to accede to the prayer of the said petition for the severance of the county, as we consider the present county, as a whole, small enough ; for in the event of a large, important work being undertaken, no small port : on of the present Geraldine County would successfully carry it out, whereas the County as a whole might." Orari Gorge, G. TRIPP. 15th October, 1879,
