The informa'licu contained in the -work will be cjfun interesting character, history being** trended with amusing stories. It will be of a reliable description, and as such cannot but command a large circulation. It will be profusely illustrated by some of the best views in the Australian colonies. With the prospectus sent to us were a number . of specimen copies of the illustrations. They arc elegantly got up, and if “got up” in the same maimer in the work as in the specimens, lucky will be the person who obtains a copy of the work. The binding of the work will 1# unique and costly, comprising a gold embossed cover with emblematic device. | The work, which is the first of its.'kin| published in Victoria, is dedicated to the Hon W. J, Clarke, M.L.0., as a mark of the esteem in which he is deservedly held by all classes of the community. One favorable feature connected with the work- is that both artist and editor will visit each locality described. Several names of influential gentleman in the colonies are appended to the prospectus. The Governments of the. several colonies are also on the list as patrons. This speaks well for the author, and we cordially wish him a large circulation. We cannot do better than by quoting the following paragraph from the prospectus : —“The work is intended as a worthy memorial of the rise, progress, and present prosperity of the colofiy ; and will form not only a valuable / addition to libraries, but a most appropriate souvenir for visitors to Melbourne during the Exhibition year, ‘ Victoria in 1880 ? wi l embrace features constituting it a veritable livre da luxe : but while vicing in this respect with the best publications of the whole world, will still be thoroughly and distil ctively Australian.”
