English Mail.—The English mail via San Francisco will close at the post office on Friday, 18th instant, at 2.30 p.m. Money orders, &c, at 5 p.m. on the previous day. Maoki Election.—We understand the votes recorded for the candidates for the Middle Island (West Coast) election are as follows :—Thira Timia, 191; Teroka, 78 ; Paratena, 60. Auction Sales. —Mr E. F. Gray reports having sales of general merchandise at his rooms, Temuka, on Friday and Saturday last. There was a good attendance, and fair prices obtained. Also having sale at Caledonian Hotel on Monday last of entire horse Marquis of Normanby and farm implements, &c. The latter were disposed of at satisfactory prices, but the former was passed in. Several hacks were disposed of at prices satisfactory to sellers.

Goox> Templars.—The Good Hope Lodge, No. 43, held an open meeting at their room in the schoolhouse, Temuka, on Monday evening last. The meeting was of a very sociable character,, several of the non-mem-bers present joining in the proceedings, which tended to make the meeting a very enjoyable one. Amongst those who took part in the entertainment were Misses Langister and Collins, Mr and Mrs E. Brown, Mrs Rands, Messrs Storey, Gapes, Harriron, Clinch, Hayhurst, Barber, Cooper, and Baguley. We understand it is the intention of this lodge to give a public concert at an early date in aid of their new building, which is fast approaching completion, and judging from the talent displayed on Monday evening last we predict a bumper house as the result.

Temuka Volunteers.—ln the report of the prize firing in our last issue we forgot to mention that Private Shepherd, of Oamaru, was second in the list, but owing to the arrangement that the first three prizes had to be taken by Temuka Yolunteer3, only he was placed fourth in the prize list. Lieut. Findlay is credited with having received 3 points in the handicap, whereas ho did not receive any, but made one more point at the 400yds range, thus making the total correct as stated.
