TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
A special meeting of the Board was held on Monday last. Present—Messrs Talbot (chairman), Quinn, Ensor, and Hay hurst. The following correspondence was considered :
From Mr B. A. Barker, apoligising for his unavoidable absence.
Agreed to. From Mr J. Bruce, offering to supply kauri timber at 20s 6d delivered at Ternuka station.
Accepted, and Clerk authorised to order timber accordingly. From Messrs Flatman and Taylor, offering to supply black pine and totara timber at 21s per 100 feet, delivered at the yard. The Clerk was instructed to order the same to be delivered at the yard within as short a time as possible. A letter was read, from Mrs M'Kenzie, asking for timber to form a bridge spanning a dram leading into her paddocks. Ordered that Mrs M'Kenzie be supplied witli drain pipes for the purpose. Mr Q.uinn, on behalf of the residents at "Winchester, applied to have certain footpaths leading from the main road to the Church granted. The Surveyor was instructed to look into the matter, and call for tenders for the same if found necessary. A letter was. read fsom Mr Barker, drawing the attention of the Board to the bad state of the road from Mr Hay's place to the Haihaitimoana river.
The Surveyor stated that tenders -would be accepted this day for the work. Mr Ensor applied to be allowed to take a few loads of gravel from the Board's gravel pit at Milford. Granted.
A letter was received from the Public Works Office, Wellington, forwarding a copy of a letter written by the Ashburton County Council in the matter of establishing a ferry at the Lower Rangitata, and placing the control of the same under the control of the Council.
Eesolved —That the Board agree to the Ashburfcon County Ccmncil having the control as required, in accordance with a resolution passed by thi3 Board on the matter, a copy of which was duly forwarded to the Council. Mr Quinn brought under the notice of the Board certain complaints that had reached him from various ratepayers of the manner in which certain day work was being carried out under the supervision of the Surveyor on the Geraldine road, near Winchester, the complaints in question being that the men lost a great deal of time during working hours, and were not at work the usual number of hours each day. The Surveyor wes instructed to exercise strict supervision in such matters before passing vouchers for their payments : The following tenders for works were accepted : No, 23—T. JefFcoate, at 2s 3d per yard.
No. 27—Matthew Butler, at 9s per chain. No. 34—George Crozier : drain at 6s per chain ; flax, £2l. No. 46—J. Radford, £2O ; concrete, £2 6s per cubic yard. No. 47—Waltec Rav, £99. No. 48—J. Radford; £65. No. 49—S. Currie, £65. No. 50—Connor and Sullivan. £2OO. No. 51—A. Colville, £227. No. 52—James Thomson, at Is 9d per yard. No. 53—W. Simpson, at Is 9d per yard. No. 54—M. O'Brien, £SO. No. 55—C. Flyrm, ct*2s 5d per yard. No. 56 —W. Ormbnd, at Is 5d per yard. No. 57—J. Horgan, £l6 7s. The meeting then adjourned.
