■’MelbottEkb, June'l4. , A-’report that’ the Kellys had reached -’.Melbourne and got’aboard a -brig bourn 1 for Newcastle has been proved to be unfounded. The brig arrived at Newcastle, and there were no traces discovered of their having been on board. The ‘- Argus •’ Embassy correspondent telegraphs from Albany that Mr Berry has made the astounding statement at Chelsea that be received scores of threatening letters and was in constant dread of. violence. The Conservative Press are apologising for such conduct. Government propose to make the franchise for the Legislative Council the same as that for the Assembly, Sydney June 10. A Bill has been introduced by the Government in the Legislative Assembly to prevent the influx into the colony of criminals, having especial reference to Communists and other escapees from New Caledonia. Brisbane, June tG. The Queensland Government have called for tenders for. a mail service via Torres Straits, to be either fortnightly or monthly.
