Home, Juno°4. The River Po has overflowed its banks, causing a great amount of damage. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, June 5. The Australian European Bank at Melbourne has stopped payment. The particulars are unknown. There is terrible excitement among the other Banks and building societies. A notice on the door of the Australian Bank states that the Associated Banks will cash their notes. A rim has been made to day on the City of Melbourne Bank. It is, however, believed to be financially sound. The Bank has published a notice that the doors will be kept open for business till 8 p.m. to-night. The Australian and European Bank estate shows a liability of £500,000, and probable assets to the amount of LGOO,OOO. The notice on the doors of the Australian and European Bank states that the Directors hope to re-open shortly, and liquidate under the auspices of the Associated Banks, who will protect their notes. A telegram states that the Kelly's are in the Puzzle ranges. Their saddles and trappings have been found, and the police have gone in search. # The suspension of the Australian European Bank is announced. The liabilities are not large. The Associated Banks have agreed to tr.ke the Australian and European Bank's notes. The stoppage has caused the locking up of funds, the Union Bank refusing further advances. Arrangements have been made to pay all liabilities, but "1 never to resume. * There was a great rush on the City of Melbourne Bank, but all demands were met in gold. The excitement is subsiding. Sydney, June 5. The colony is excited by the threatened execution of two youths for rape. Petitions against the sentence being carried into effect are pouring in on the Government. Adelaide, June 5. Queen's Birthday Cup, a handicap of 500 sovs., and a gold cup, value 100 guineas, added to a sweep of 15 sovs. Richmond 1 Levanter ... 2 Mountaineer 3 Brisbane, June 5. The Treasnrer has introduced his financial statement. He estimates the revenue at L1,G58,000, and the expenditure at L 1,608,000. A new loaa of three millions is to bo raised for immigration and public works.
