Gamack, Esq., J.P., Licensing Commissioners.] The annual Licening Court for the Temuka, Bkvrb'i wa-. held "a Wednesday, in tin? Court-house, Temuka.
POLTCK MiU'Oi'/r. The police veneris on the existing hotels in the district spoke favorably of the manner in which had been conducted. The licenses of the undermentioned persons and houses wore granted : —IS! Barrett, Caledonian Hotel ; Mrs E. Heap, Royal Hotel ; M. Quiim, Star Hotel ; Leonard Tombs, Crown Hotel ; and T. Swiuton, Winchester Hotel, Winchester. The application of L. Tombs for a renewal of the license of the Crown Hotel was opposed by Mr Johnstone, on behalf of the landlord (Mr Hayhurst), on the ground that the transfer of the license from the late licensee had been unfairly obtained, as Mr Hayhurst's sanction, as landlord, had not been obtained. Mr Hamersley, with him Mr White, appeared to support Mi Tombs' application. The Court decided that, as a Licensing Bench, they could not deal with an objection of that character, and granted the application. H. Brosnahan ai3plied, through Mr Johnston, for a license for the Orari Hotel. Application granted.
