TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, the Ist April. The whole of the members were present. The minutes of the last meeting wore read and confirmed. In passing the various accounts for payment, the accounts rendered by Messrs Trongrovo and Taylor, and E. Forward, were "deferred for further inquiry and more detailed information. With reference to accounts coming before the Board, it was resolved to enforce in all instances without exception a former resolution of the Board to the effect that all accounts for payment must be in the hands of the clerk before noon on the day previous to the sitting of the Board. Mr Martin Dunn had an interview with the Board to explain why he had not commenced his contracts in Davie’s street, and asking the Boards indulgence to allow him to proceed with it. It was resolved that Martin Dnnn’a contract be relet at his risk, and the action taken by the surveyor in calling for tenders for the same for that day was approved, am! that the proper officer take action against the defaulting contractor should the Board have to pay a higher price for the work, in accordance with the general conditions. Resolved that the clerk be authorised to procure a new stamp for the Board, as per pattern suggested. The following correspondence was read:—• From Mr Duncan Taylor in re unpaid rates from Treasury, Wellington, advising remittance of £GO3 3s Id, From Bank of New Zealand, Terauka, informing the Board of the above amount having been received and placed to tho credit, of the Board. .From Avon Road Board, enclosing a statement showing the various amounts due from eacli Road Board towards defraying tho expenses incurred by the Committee on the impounded land fund, share from Tcmnka, being £lO 10s lid. Resolved that same be paid forthwith. From J. and 11. Grimwood, relative to timber supplied. From (J. Shcrratt, on subject of payment for valuing districts. From J. B. Sheath Christchurch, giving price list of draining pipes. From Levels Road Board, acknowledging receipt of this Board's letter in re Opihi bridge. Resolved that the Chairman of tho Levels Board bo written to informing him that this Board will bo glad to meet a deputation from the Levels Board in the terms of letter dated 20fch March, and request that he will fix time and place for tho meeting. Mr Rees Thomas complained that water was flowi’ g off the drainage of the road and damaging his land. The surveyor explained that he was of opinion the vater in question should not be allowed to flow in the direction of Mr Thomas’s land, but should be carried along the side of the main road to Paterson’s road, and down the side of tho latter to the bridge near Mr Paterson’s house. Ordered that the surveyor call for tenders for the work. From Mr G. Dyson, enclosing cheque for tho rent of the Pound, and bringing before the notice of tho Board the dilapidated condition of the Pound, stating that in consequence of tho rotten state of the posts, etc., several mobs of cattle and siieep had broken loose to his loss, and asking the Board to allow him some amends for the same. Resolved that the Board cannot entertain the application for compensation asked for. From Mr Olivier, District Auditor, asking for certain information relative tu reserves in the district. Resolved that the Board regret they arc not in a position to snpp 1 y the information asked for, having bad no control or management of any of the reserves in the district. They would refer Mr Olivier to tho Steward of Reserves. Resolved that the surveyor prepare plans and specifications for a concrete culvert or bridge, as may bo necessarv, on Paterson’s road. In conformity with the resolution passed at a previous meeting of the Board, tho clerk produced a rough form of agnernent to bo entered into between the Board and contractors. The Board considered the form as too long and elaborate for their purpose, and instructed the clerk to prepare a more simple form in accordance with the general conditions hitherto in existence. Resolved that a special meeting of the Board be held on Monday, the 7tu iasr., at 2.30 p.m. Resolved that the specifications, as produced by tho surveyor, be copied, 'and each member of the Board be supplied with a copy at once to consider before Monday next ; and in future conies e: all specifications drawn out by the* surveyor to be supplied to each member iff the Board a week before the used monthly sitting, Resolved that Shaw’s road for sin voy be taken out of Hie hands of Mr Willi an- i son, G.E., and handed over to Mr !.ewU, the present surveyor to the board, to be completed at once, and (ho Ibuod agreed ; to pay Mr Lewis the cost of the same. j In the matter of the valuation red for I 1879, it was resolved—Thai the rod hav- ; ing been passed by the Assessment iVutt through the I lot-mi inadvertently omitting to lodge a protest in writing; at the proper time, the Hoard will pa.-.s Mr Sherrodt’n i account for payment, though by no means : satisfied with the manner in winch he has compiled the valuation roll ef the district;. The Surveyor*,a report having; hem. eon. sithuve,l. the following works were approved and ordered, vie..: ■ The cut t ings on Waitohi I’owns, as agreed upon between the surveyor and iMr Nicholson, were approved of. Calling for fresh tenders for Daviestreet agreed to. Tho pieee of road applied for by Mr Brown to lie offered to the contractor for adjoining work. 1 mule is to Jie called lor thinning Badham’s road, near Low’s bridge. 'I coders to be called for forming footpaths in A Hunt, si,root. Genders lor building bridge at Langdridge’s. ’l'euders lor building bridge on McCallum’s road. Tenders to be called for building footbridge near .Neal’s. I’laus (o bo prepared for formation of road to connect Mcvallnm’s road with Waitohi Flat.
Shingling Batlliam’s road when reformed with thirty yards shingle to the chain. Plans to he prepared for a new bridge on Paterson’s road near railway. Specifications for cnlargment of drain leading from Parke’s towards Boiling Down mad. r iho Board then adjourned.
