GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the ist day of April, in the Road Board Office, Geraldine. Present — Mr Postlethwaito (chairman), Mr Be Rcnzj, and Mr Upton Slack. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and eon tinned. The following tenders were accepted : 2so. 12, forming near M'Covmick’s: Salmon and Co., Too. Iso. 13, footbridge, Eaukapuka Down : Pitield, £23. Kb. 13, Sullivan s road : 2f. P. Bracelield, £603 15s. Ko. 15, j'ormii:", etc., near Eakah.u ol<i .-Tat ion ; J. and Vv'i Beil, £253. The following correspondence was read and considered : Prom the 3.fount Pool Road Board, dated March 27th, requesting to bo informed what the Board intend to do with the Rangilata river-bed road. Resolved that the overseer write and meet Mr Irvine, and decide what is necessary t o be done, and call for tenders for next Board dav. Prom the Secretary to the Treasury, dated March 10th, informing the Board that the sum of £159 Os lOd had been paid to its credit, being the subsidy for the half-year ending 30th June, 1879. Resolved that the Clerk acknowledge the receipt of the same. Prom Mr Tripp, dated 17th March requesting the Board to improve the road at the head of the Waihi Bush. Resolved that the Board would not feel justified in doing work opposite section 5701, the same being too costly for the amount of traffic j also to call for tenders near section 15107. Prom the Clerk to the Geraldine County Council, dated 19th March, applying for the total amount of all rateable property in this district upon which rates have been levied for the past year; also the total amount of all general rates actually received during the same year. The Clerk stated that the information had been supplied. Prom the Geraldine County Council, dated 25th March, asking—(l.) The valuation of the district for the current year. (2.) Rates collected for a year ending March 31, 1379. (3.) Total amount collected for the past five years. (4.) Amount received from Government consequent on the division of the Countv Fund made on March, 1878. (5.) The funds on deposit or otherwise clear of liability on 31st March, 1879. Resolved that the Board do not consider thev are called upon to give the information asked. Prom Mr Charles Boulcher and others, dated March 25, asking the Board to improve the road to Mr Hides laud. Resolved that the Overseer report upon the same. Prom Mr Ollivicr, Provincial District Auditor, dated March 31, requesting lo bo furnished with information about, the reserves in this district as follows :—l. The name or number of reserve. 2. The locality and acreage. 3. If occupied, by whom and for what purpose. 4. Whether fenced or improved. 5. If any buildings thereon. 0. The material. 7. The present value. 8. If insured, where, and for how much. Eesolrcd that the Board hare notan officer who can furnish the information, as it would compel the Clerk to visit the various reserves, consequently involving expense ; but if reasonable expenses are offered, the Clerk will furnish the information as requested. Mr L. Walker had an interview with the Board, asking for a short length of road to be improved.. Resolved that tenders bo invited for the work. ■■ The Overseer’s report was read and considered, and the following resolutions passed : • —l. That if Oregon’s contract onWaitohi Plat is not finished by next Board day, penalty will ho inflicted. 2. Sugvue’s contract, Rangliata, to ho completed on or before 12th April ; fine inflicted. 3. Herlihv was allowed to 21st April to complete his contract on Slack's road, under penalty. Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Doßeuzy, and carried, “That Patrick Burke be requested to make good tec damage done in shingle pits Kbs. 1570 and 1731 before he receives payment for his contract.” Resolved that lenders be invited for the work near Rangitata Hotel. Accounts to the amount of £927 12s 7d were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
