MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary mooting of the above Board was held in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, on Friday last. Present—Hon. J. 13. A. Acland (chairman), Messrs Tripp, Honey, and Ma.ekay. Tenders for the following works wore accepted ; —■ No. 5 Contract, building addition to stable, A. Irvine, L 145 11s.

No. 9, forming from Mount Michael "Valley to Gray’s farm, John Sugrue, L 743. The following correspondence was read and considered : From the Geraldine Road Board, enclosing copy of a resolution re the embankment at the Rangitata bridge that Mr Shiers and Mr Irvine meet, and should they agree that the work should be done the Geraldine lloai’d are Milling for the Mount Peel Board to call for tenders for the same. The Overseer Mas instructed to meet Mr Shiers, and if agreed by them to call for tenders for the work. From Mr James "Watkins, calling the attention of the Board to the probable overflow of the water on the south side of the Rangitata river, and requesting that the protective works be erected immediately so as to protect the property on the south side of the river. Resolved—That the Clerk reply and inform Mr Watkins that the Board do nob feel called upon to put up protective works on the south side, considering the experience of the uselessness of those erected on the north side. If the landed property is in danger the General Government had better bo applied to by the oMuiers. From Mr A. Ilawdon, complaining of the state of the crossing in the Orari river near Mr Tripp’s. The clerk was instructed to reply that the road across the river-bed has been improved, and that the question of clearing out the cutting in the terrace is under consideration with the Geraldine Road Board. tjUFrom the Resident Engineer, Christchurch, requesting to be furnished with a lithographed map of the district. The Clerk was directed to reply, and state that there arc no lithographed maps of the district in possession or this Board. From the Ashburton County Council, transmitting a copy of a resolution passed by the Council in reference to the extension of the Rangitata bridge, to the effect that the Council declines any further responsibility connected Math the bridge unless the Government see lit to authorise the necessary expenditure which may ho recovered from the Geraldine County by the Government. From the same, enclosing a copy of a letter sent by the Council to the Minister for Public Works M r ith reference to the repairs to the Rangitata bridge. From the same, in reference to the temporary bridge erected by Mr Watkins joining the Rangitata road bridge. From the same, enclosing copy of the correspondence between the Council and the General Government in reference to the extension of the Rangitata bridge. From the Treasury, "Wellington, furnishing items of charges deducted from the Land Fund for the quarter ending 31st December, 1878. From the Steward of Reserves, in reference to reserve adjoining section 832, at Peel Forest. The Clerk was instructed to write to Col. Packe and ask if ho will grant the land for a road through sections 30882 and 16217 ; also upon M’hat terms he mIII allow a road to be taken through section 7416. To write to the Chief Surveyor, requesting him to furnish the Board with a tracing of the road running through sections 22226, 30165, and 29954. To write ty Messrs J. and R. Worthington, and enquire if they will allow a road to he taken through part of section 29954. To M-rite to Mr J. 11. R. King, requesting him to supply the Board with a certified plan of the roads surveyed by him through the Allandalo property. To write to Mr J. Anderson, asking M’lien ho expects that the stone-breaking machine will be ready for delivery. Accounts to the amount pf £571 Is Id were passed for payment. The Board thou adjourned till the third Friday in April.
