MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the above Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Monday 10th Feb. Present—Hon. J. Barton A. Ac! and (Chairman), Messrs J. Honey, C. Gr. Tripp, and R. Maokay. The Chairman stated that the principal object in calling the special meeting was for the election of a member to servo on the Timaru Harbor Board, in conformity with the regulations of the Harbors Act, 1878. He also read a letter from Clement W. Tailored, Esq., offering himself as a candidate. Proposed ■ by Mr Tripp, seconded by Mr Honey, and carried, “ That Clement W. Tailored, Esq. be elected as member of the Timaru Harbor Board.” Ho other candidate being proposed, the Chairman declared 0. W. Tailored duly elected. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting wore then read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read and considered ; From the Ashburton County Council, dated January 18th, containing Mr Higginson’s report upon Hie extension of the Rangitata road bridge, and staling that the Council had decided to adopt Ho. 5 described in his report, hut substituting iron piles for wood. From Messrs Perry and Perry, on behalf of ill’ Lewis Kaddon, claiming LIOO damages sustained by him through the Hoard having made a road through his section. The Clerk was instructed to reply, and inform Messrs Perry and Perry that there is little doubt that Mr Kaddon committed an illegal act in feneiugacross the Government, road in perfect knowledge of the fact. From Mr J. H. R, Xing, with reference to surveying a road through section 19991, staling that he will be unable to survey the road for two or throe mouths. The Clerk was directed to reply, and request to have the road surveyed at once by a licensed surveyor. From the Secretary to the Treasury, informing the Hoard that the sum of Ll 9 12s lOd has been paid to the Hoard’s credit, being share of LG2O 10s os at credit of the separate account of the County of G-eraldinc. From J. L. Wilson, requesting the Board’s concurrence in the payment of law expenses incurred rc the impounded land fund. The Clerk was instructed to reply, stating the Hoard’s willingness to contribute its share of the costs, and to forward a copy of the Committee's letter of October 30, and ask if the Committee are aware when the balance will be paid over, as then* letter of December 30 states that it was to be paid in two'or three weeks. Proposed by Mr Tripp, seconded by the Cnairman, and carried, “ That the Mount Peel Hoad Hoard write to the Ashburton County Council and express its satisfaction at their decision to lengthen the Kangitata Traffic Bridge under the superintendence of Mr Higginsou, although the Hoard regret that the Council did not adopt the estimate Xo. 1 for lengthening the bridge in a similar manner to the existing bridge, so strongly recommended by Mr Jligginson ; and the Hoard is glad to sec by the papers that they hare applied to the Government to deduct half the expense of the same from the Geraldine County, not only as they are empowered to do so by an Act of Parliament, but as a right and just claim between the two districts ; and that the Clerk forward a copy of the above resolution to the Minister of Public Works, Wellington.” .Resolved, “ That the Clerk write to the Geraldine Hoad Hoard requesting their concurrence in improving the boundary road from the Kangitata bridge to the south side of the Orari river ; also to apply for half cost for clearing out the cutting in the Kangitata terrace on the boundary road” It was .also resolved that the Clerk apply to the Colonial Secretary for a copy of the Harbors Act, 1878. The Overseer was instructed to insert a notice in the ! Timaru Herald,’ intimating that the time for receiving tenders for Iso*. 1,2, 3,, and -1 contracts has boon extended to 28th February ; also, to make arrangements for the purchase of a pair of horses, and to purchase a supply of oats and hay sufficient for twelve months. Accounts to the amount of L 167 3s 5d wore passed for payment. The meeting then adjourned till Friday, 2Sth February.
