THE LATE HORSE TRIALS.

(to the editor of the temuka leader. ) Sir,— In your last issue you gave an account of a pulling match in which I was interested, and in which, according to your account, I came off second best. It is true I did so, but I am inclined to think not quite fairly. I have good reason to believe that the load my horses drew on Monday morning contained about nine feet more shingle than the one drawn by Mr Hoare’s horses on Saturday. More than that, and worse than that, the referee for the other side called out and stopped my team, going freely at the time, in the softest place I had to pull through. For the credit of Mr Radford’s horse and my own I hope you will insert these few lines in your next.—l am, &c., Henry Holloway.
