GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting was held in the Road Board Oitice on Tuesday, the 3rd December. Present : Mr Win. Postlethwaite (chairman), Messrs James Hay, Win. Upton Slack, and F. R. Flatman. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following tenders were opened and considered : No. 5(3, Dean's road: D. Gregon. L 94; Dean and Douglas, L9l 15s ; C. Maslin, L 79 ; Joseph We'd), L 72 (accepted). No. 57, Geraldine traffic bridge : A. Coles. L 54 10s ; H. Morrison, L 45 (informal, being late); G. Hipworth, L 43 10s ; Simpson and Gardner, L3l 7s Gd; J. Cooper, L 34 10s. No. 58, Wilson's road : J. Casey, L 150; M. Gnenn, L 145; J. Sugrne, Ll4l (accepted). No. 59, Brophy's road : D. Guthrie, E2O 5s ; T. O'Connor, Ll 3 ; J. Fifield, L 1 0; Newport and Clarke, L 7 10s (accepted). No. 60, near Coughlan's : A. Coles, LOB l'2s ; Simpson and Gardner, L6B 7s Gd ; G. Hipworth, L 63 5s (accepted). The following correspondence vvas read and considered :
From the Colonial Secretary, dated sth November, regretting that the Government cannot see its way clear to grant a severance of the district unless new petitions are sent in, signed by the ratepayers of eacli of the two districts, setting out the territory intended to be affected. From the owner of section 31888, asking for a road to be made to his land. The overseer having reported upon it, it was resolved that tenders be invited for the work as per overseer's report. From Mr Lewis Grant, dated November 20, offering to purchase gravel reserve 10G1 for the sum of LlO per acie. It was resolved that the Clerk reply that the Board have no nower to sell.
From Mr Whittaker, dated November 20, re claim for damages done to the bush by the fire. Resolved that the Board cannot take any steps iu the matter.
From the Mount Peel Road Board, dated 21st November, urging the Board to proceed with the repairs of the Rangitata river bed road. Resolved that tendors be invited to put the road in repair without delay. From Mr Alex. Ivelman, dated December 2nd, requesting the Board to repair the road leading towards Kangitata station. Resolved that the overseer report upon the same. From Mr Lewis Grant, dated December 4th, offering to lease gravel reserve. 1061 for a term of 14 years at a rental of L 3 per year. Resolved that Mr Grant's offer be accepted, on condition that notice of six months can given by the Board should it be found at any time the land is required—compensation to be given for a crop which may be growing at the time. From Mr Cornelius Leaiy, dated Nov. 28. asking an extension of time of one month. Granted.
From the Mount Peel Road Board, dated 21st November, asking for a copy of the agreement between the Mount Peel Road Board and the Geraldine Road Districts with reference to the Rangitata river bed. Resolved that a copy be furnished. From Mr Tim. Herlihy, asking an extension of time of three weeks to complete his contract. Granted. From Mr Wilson, proprietor Temuka Leader, dated 31st October, with regard to advertisements being inserted in the Leader. From Messrs Ingram and White, dated 31st Oi tober, with reference to the timber ordered. From the Secretary to the Treasury, dated 30th October, informing the Board of the payment of L 2748 17s Gd to the Board's credit ; also, of the 4th November, L 2834 Is 10, being the share of amount at credit of the County of Geraldine on the 30th September. Resolved that the Clerk acknowledge the receipt of the same. From the Colonial Treasurer, dated Bth November, with reference to the su sidy upon the amount of rates received. From Mr A. Kelman, dated 2nd Dec, offering the sum of £2 for the grass on reserve near Mr Bell's. Resolved that his offer be accepted on condition that any trees cut or destroyed be made good. From Messrs M'Lennan, Henry, Green, and R. H. Rhodes with reference to their rates. Resolved that a notice be inserted in the Timaru ' Herald' that all defaulters will be sued at once.
From Sir Thomas Tancred, F. A. Bishyp, Thomas Hampson, and Julius Mendelson, asking to have certain sections transferred to other occupiers. The same to be attended to.
Mi Wigley had an interview with the Board relative to the road leading over the Waitohi Downs. Resolved that Mr Wigley be asked to produce a tracing of the road for the guidance of the overseer, who will report thereon. Erom Mr A. Ellis, dated Movember 14, requesting the Board to improve the road between Creek station and South Rangitata railway station. t The same to be attended to.
From the Steward of Reserves, Christchurch, dated Nov. 11, asking for some explanation and the terms on which the Board have exchanged gravel reserve 1066 with Patrick Ryan. Resolved that the Clerk forward the required information. Mr R. P. Wells waited upon the Board with reference to reducing certain hills between Wells' and Love's. Resolved
that tenders be invited for this wcrk, and also for gravelling the road near Pithie's. :: .Resolved that Mr Spiers purchase an acre of land near the Presbyterian Church for a gravel reserve.
Resolved that a letter be written to Mr Shaw to forward the;,,niap out at once,- to enable the valuers W mike out valuation list.
Resolved that a letter be written to the Bank of New Zeland for the deposit receipts, and a return showing amount and date of maturity. Overseer's report read and considered. (1). Hesketh's road : that the overseer see owner of section in gully, and report at next meeting ; (2 ) To erect a new bridge at Peekham's crossing. Resolved that the Clerk advertise the annual meeting of ratepayers, to be held on the first Tuesd.iy in January, at noon. Resolved that valuation forms be obtained . Accounts to the amount of L 1505 2s 9cl were passed for payment. Tenders will be invited for Board's deposit account after next meeting, The Board adjourned until tie 17th December, at 10 a.m.
