LICENSING- COURT. Wednesday, Dec. 4th. [Before A. LeG. Campbell, E*q., R.M., W. D. Maedonald and W. Upton Slack, Esqs., J,Ps] The police report was considered. It was decided that the Clerk to Licensing Court inform the owner of the Greraldine Hotel that a new building must be erected, and that plans be prepared for production at the next licensing meeting in March for the approval of the Bench, under liability of forfeiture of license. Mr Abraham Henry Heatley applied for a transfer of license to his new house at Woodbury, to be known by the name of " Woodbury Hotel," The application was granted. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. POLICE CASES. James Kennedy, F. Dawson, John Kennedy, and Joseph Lewis were charged with allowing cattle to stray, and were fined 5s for each offence. Alfred Wadsworth was charged with a similar offence. Mr Hamersley defended this case. After some evidence had been given for the prosecution, the police decided to withdraw the case, as the ownership of the cattle was disputed. CIVIL CASES. John Bull v. James Watkins. —Claim £l2 10s, for placing concrete blocks into position at the Kangitata bridge. Mr Johnston for plaintiff, Mr Hamersley for defendant. Defendant told plaintiff he had £25 for doing the work, and engaged Alick Finlay to come with his team to pull the blocks of concrete into their right places. Finlay's horses failed, and plaintiff brought his horses at defendant's request to do the work upon the understanding that the three men would receive an equal share of the £25, and no arrangement made about the horses. Alick Finlay gave similar evidence. Judgment was given for £8 10s, and £2 gs costs. Julius Mendelson v. A. Algers, of Akaroa. —Claim £3 13s 2d. Settled out of Court. Wm. Maslin v. Greo. Stevens. —Claim £ls 0s 7. This case was settled out of Court. Alfred Wadsworth v. Edward Johnson. — Damage £l, for illegally charging driving fees for cattle straying on a road. Mr Hamersley for plaintiff, and Mr Perry for defendant. This case occupied a considerable time, as several witnesses were examined on both sides. After counsel had addressed the Bench, Judgment was given f or the sum of 4s, with costs, £2 13s. Alfred Austin, v. Ewd. Johnson, damages, £5. Mr Hamersley for plaintiff, and Mr C. Perry for defendant. The case arose over defendant's sending 4 head of cattle to pound that were straying on a public road. The children sent with the cattle could not get them to the pound, and so they went home again to tell Johnson. By the time they got to the Orari from Peckham's corner, where they had left the cows, the plaintiff had the cows at the Orari, and one of his milking cows had been damaged to the extent of £4. This case also occupied a considerable time, as a number of witnesses were called. Judgment was given for Is damages, without costs,

A. Wadsworth v. E. Johnson, damages, 10s, done to a foal by defendant hunting it and other stock with his dogs. Mr Hamersley for plaintiff, and Mr C. Perry fo*;, defendant. From the evidence it appeared that the plaintiff had a number of horses running on the road alongside defendant's fence, and defendant drove them down the river bed, which was near the fence. This case was "proceeding when the last • coach to . Timaru arrived; and it was adjourned with two other cases until next Court day. E. Woofenden v. James E. Douglas —Debt, £ll ss. This case stands adjourned on account of defendant being under the doctor's hands. James Watkins v. John Bull—Claim, £l2 8s sd.

Same v. Alick Findlay—Claim, £l9 8s Bd. Both these cases stand adjourned until next Court day. GL Taylor v. Jemes Warren —Debt, £3 lis 4d. Settled out of Court.

G. Taylor v. C. Looker—Debt, £2l 3s 9d. Judgment for plaintiff, and an order was made for defendant to pay £2 per month.
