Lonpojst, Sep. 27. The 'Times' declares that England is fully prepared for the present ciisis iu Afghanistan. The passes are to be occupied whether the Ameer be friendly or not. An extraordinary interest is excited, not only in England, but on the Continent, and war agaiust Afghanistan, and possibly against Russia, is deemed quite inevitable. It is said thr.t the Afghans are trying to induce their Turkish co-religionists to a ; ly themselves with Russia, as they themselves have done. On the other hand, it is said that the Porte is endeavoring to persuade the Afghans to confederate with other Asiatic Moslem princes. At the inquest on the Princess Alice disaster it came out that the steersm in at the time of the accident was an incompetent volunteer who had never steered such a boat before. Thirty of the Duke of Devonshire's shorthorns sold for L 20,000. The Kaffir war is not yet ended.
