GERALDINE.

(From our own Correspo .dent.) In ihe Resident f Magistrate's Court held at Geraldine on the JJlst Oetul.ei, Hu°h M'Kay was charged with string a lmrse, the property of Alexander Ross Waihi Bush. Prisoner borrowed the horse od the 30th Octobei, for the purpose as he said, of going to bcotsbam, EThe rode to Heatley's Hotel and there sold it to Mr George Taylor, of Winchester The latter afterwards sold the herse to James Fergusson, in whose possession the rightful owner found he Mr Heatley .gave evidence that •U'Jwy, being quite sober at the time, had oftcnj to sell the horse to him also. The mrMcr, who was defended t-y Mr HarXersley, reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the next session of the Supreme Court, Timaru. _ "Honour to whom honour is due. Sergeant O'Malley, in the absence of Inspector Pender wasintrusted with the above cas-, and from the manner in winch he conducted it he deserves great praise. 1 do not know if this was the first case he has conducted where the prisoner charged was committed for trial, if so, it speaks well for him. The witnesses were not only examined in order, but his plain questions, and his readiness in putting them, shows that he had the whole case at his fingers' ends. W Park was charged with the larceny of a saddle, the property of Mr O'Donoghue. Mr Hamersley appeared for the prisoner. The evidence all tended to show there was no cupability on the part of the accused, and his Worship therefore dismissed the case.
