At Detroit the local Eighteen scored 32 and 81, and the Australians 184. At Quebec the local Twenty-two made 90, and the Australians 319.

Negotiations are proceeding between England, France, and Austria, to secure a common agreement on European questions as a counterpoise to Russia.
The report on the Glasgow City Bank shows an estimated loss of L 6,191,000, excluding capital and reserve fund. The accounts had been falsified, and securities entered in fictitious names, bad debts treated as good assets, and the gold, covering an excessive note issue, squandered. The Government had been deceived by false returns, and the shareholders by crooked balance-sheets. Among the colonial securities pledged are lands in Poverty Bay, New South Wales, and Queensland. A serious panic has occurred among Manchester building societies. Prance and England agreed upon the reforms to be undertaken in Egypt.
The control of Alexandria remains with England. By a railway accident at Potny-prid, Wales, ten persons were killed and twenty injured. The directors of the Colonial Trusts Corporation have been summoned to the Mansion House to produce lire books of the company in connection with their balance-sheet.
Great monetary pressure continues. Gold continues to ebb away to Scotland. The reserve is so low that a further advance of rates is inevitable.
Numerous failures occurred on the Stock Exchange during recent settlement, but none for heavy amounts. October 18. Tire probable deficiency of the Glasgow Bank will be £5,000,000. Mr Cross said that (he Government had no desire to extend the northern frontier in the direction of Afghanistan, if the Afghan continued strong, inlependent, and friendly. Troops have been sent to the scene of the massacre. Melbourne. Oct. 29. Firebell, which was backed for £30,000 last night, is now first favortie. Device has been backed for £20,000, and stands at 100 to 3, Melita is now at 100 to 10, Savanaka at 100 to 8.
