GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
A special meeting of the Board was held on Saturday last, in the Road Board Office, Geraldine. Present—Mr Wm. Postlethwaite (chairman), Messrs James Hay, Fredk. Flatman, Wm. De Renzy, and Wm. Upton Slack. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following tenders were opened and considered :
No. 23, posts and rails, George Meredith, L 7 10s per hundred ; Taylor and Flatman, L 4 10s per hundred, accepted. No. 29, Trezise’s Cutting, John Casey, L 45 8; N. P. Braeefield, L 458 ; M. O’Brien, - L 446 6s 9d ; Joseph Webb, L 424; James [Gregon, L4OO, accepted conditionally. No. 30, Connolly’s road, Hans Gripp L 24 ; Fred. Blagas, ~il9 19s 6d ; Thoma Bates, Ll2 10s; Thomas Dickens, Ll2 accepted. No. 31, Shay’s road, Fred. Blagas, L2
Is 31; Hans Gripp, L2O; Newport and Clark,-.LIT; Thomas Bates, LIT, accepted. No. 32, shingling near Orari bridge, T. Herlihy, LTT; M. O’Brien, L6O; Joseph Webb, L 59 10s ; John Fifield, Lfi4 ; James Gregon, L 62; John Sugrue, LSO, accepted. No 34, Coil’s road, James Gregon, LSB; N. P. Bracefield, L 55 13s, accepted. No. 36, Hawke’s footbridge, dera to be invited. 80. 3T, Colletts road, to stand over; until next meeting. No. 38, Totara piles, Taylor and Flatman, 22s per 100 feet, accepted. The following correspondence, was read and considered : - From Wm. McClelland, dated August 20th, asking to have the footpath made up to his residence in the township of Geraldine. .Resolved, that the overseer report upon the same. From the Mount Peel Road Board, dated ITth August, re Rangitata river bed road, having reference to claim for gravel. From the same of the same date, re repairs to the Orari Bridge. , From the same of the ITth August, asking that the Rangitata river bed road may be repaired as soon as possible. Resolved that if no severance takes place, the overseer invite tenders for the necessary work. From Mr Thomas Millard, dated 23rd August, applying to rent the whole of one of the immigrants’ cottages. Resolved that the application be granted for the present, tenants to receive notice to leave in one week.
From the Governor of the Canterbury College, asking what the tlie Board required the reserve 696 for. Resolved that the Clerk reply, u To make a covered drain instead of remaining open as at present.” From Mr James Stewart and others, dated 16th August, asking to have the road shingled from Waihi Bush to Fairfield. Resolved that the overseer report upon the same. From Mr J. H. Dean, dated 24th Aug., asking permission to take about 20 yards of earth from the cutting near Campbell’s. Granted, the earth to be taken from the upper side of the road. From the Chairman of the late Tim am and Gladstone Board of Works, dated 20th August, with reference to the division of the money received from the Government for the late Board’s offices. Resolved that the Clerk inquire on what basis the funds have been allocated.
From Mr J. C. Whittaker, dated 17th August, with reference to allowing a road through his section, asking a larger sum than he had previously offered the land for.
